Black American English (AAVE), broader than ballroom:

• got that dog in me — sports/combine culture, particularly Black athletes; mainstream around 2020
• based — coined by rapper Lil B "The BasedGod" c. 2010, originally meaning unpretentious/yourself; later co-opted by online right with a different meaning
• rizz / rizzed — coined by Twitch streamer Kai Cenat, 2022, short for "charisma"
• goated — verb form of GOAT ("Greatest Of All Time"), often traced to Muhammad Ali and hip-hop
• bussin — AAVE, popularized via TikTok food culture around 2020
• crunk — Southern hip-hop, Lil Jon era, 1990s–2000s
• lit — AAVE, dates back over a century, mainstreamed via 2010s hip-hop
• turnt, thirsty, vibing, pressed, big mad, mid, janky, down bad, big mood, lost in the sauce — all AAVE, various decades
• unbothered — AAVE, especially associated with Black women's online discourse
• crashing out — AAVE, very recent (2023–24)
• shook(eth) — root shook is AAVE; the -eth is a Gen Z mock-Shakespearean joke layered on top
• sus — has AAVE/Black American origins predating Among Us, which only popularized it
• cooked — older general slang for drunk/exhausted, but the recent "in trouble" meaning is AAVE/internet

Black queer / ballroom culture specifically:

• serving, snatched, slay/slayful, iconic, sent — all ballroom-tradition vocabulary. Worth crediting ballroom by name rather than the broader "Black queer," because ballroom is a particular tradition with its own history (the Paris Is Burning era and forward).

Internet / Gen Z (some built on AAVE, some not):

• epic — early-2000s internet ("epic fail")
• feral — Tumblr-era usage shifting the word toward "wildly enthusiastic"
• eepy — Twitter/Gen Z baby-talk for sleepy
• delulu — K-pop / stan culture, short for delusional
• we're so back / it's so over — 4chan-origin meme format that crossed over
• rotting — "bed rotting" internet trend
• having a menty b — British/Australian Gen Z, "mental breakdown"
• cursed — internet "cursed images" meme culture
• blursed — blessed + cursed, internet portmanteau

Clinical / therapy vocabulary:

• triggered — clinical (PTSD context); later memed online
• spiraling, dissociated, claustrophobic — clinical/psychology
• grounded, held, seen — somatic therapy / relational therapy register
• impostor syndrome — coined by Drs. Pauline Clance and Suzanne Imes, 1978, in their paper on high-achieving women
• overstimulated — clinical; heavy usage in neurodivergent communities

Disability community — this one I'd specifically credit by name:

• no spoons — from Spoon Theory, coined by Christine Miserandino in her 2003 essay "The Spoon Theory" about explaining lupus. Widely adopted by chronic illness and disability communities. Her name actually matters here in a way it doesn't for most slang.

Loanwords from other languages:

• verklempt — Yiddish, choked up / overcome with emotion (mainstreamed partly by Mike Myers' "Coffee Talk" SNL sketches)
• schadenfreude — German, pleasure in others' misfortune
• saudade — Portuguese, often called untranslatable; deep longing for something absent
• chuffed — British English, pleased

Older American slang worth a mention if you're being thorough:

• discombobulated — mid-19th-century American humorous coinage
• bamboozled — 18th-century slang, origins unknown
• hangry — portmanteau dating to ~1918, mainstreamed in 2010s
• tilted — from poker ("going on tilt"), through gaming, into general
